Wanting A Change

You come in for your appointment and you have decided it’s time for a change. You want to mix it up with new color and a new haircut, your stylist starts asking questions and looking at your hair. He or she is most likely looking at your existing color, if you have any, your natural hair color, the current condition of your hair ( is it dry? Curly? Straight?), your eye color and your skin tone. Your stylist will ask you questions like, do you like to see red or gold tones (warmth) in your hair? Do you prefer all over color or something with multiple colors? Do you have a picture of what you have in mind? Are you willing to come back as often as needed to keep up with your new color and style?

As your stylist listens to your answers, their brain is running through several options for a new color as well as what colors might look flattering on you and can easily be placed in your hair with whatever your existing color happens to be. Your stylist will then make suggestions or recommendations about what they feel will work best for you. You may look at some color swatches so that your stylist can get a clear picture of what your desired end result is, especially because we all see color differently. What looks red and coppery to one person, may look brown to another. Once you and your stylist have come to a comfortable decision, that you both feel will work for you, they will likely start asking questions about your hair cut.

Bring Out Your Best Features

Stylists attempt to help you choose both a hair cut and color placement that will bring out your best features. We will sometimes choose to cut your hair before coloring it so that we can tailor your color placement specific to the hair cut you are receiving. There are also many other factors that your stylist considers when helping you choose a new haircut. Your hair type,(Curly, wavy straight) your hair texture,( fine, medium or course) your hair density ( do you have a ton of hair or a bit less than that) are the first three things that come to mind. Then there is your face shape. It is our goal to give you a haircut that flatters your face shape and gets you as close to that perfect oval as possible. We will ask you questions like, do you like to wear your hair up often? Do you want to have bangs or layers incorporated

How much time are you willing to commit to styling each morning? All of these questions help us to be able to create a haircut that will work for you on every level of functionality.

Age Appropriate Hair

Another important factor that your stylist will consider is your age. What looks great on the 25-year-old model in Vogue Magazine may not look as flattering on someone who is in their 40’s or 50’s. We are always aiming to help you look and feel younger as you age. Part of aging sometimes involves changes in your hair texture, (is it becoming more course? Wavy? Straight?) Your hair density, (are you thinning?) and your face shape. (has your weight changed causing your face to look fuller or thinner?) While none of these things are really pleasant to think about, because let’s face it, who wants to get old, they are important in making sure that as stylists we are able to help you weather these changes with grace.

Making small changes like leaving or taking some length, adding layers or a face frame, and texturing all make a big difference when it comes to handling our hair as it changes with age. Your personality is also a very important thing to consider. Someone who has a spunky, fun, outgoing personality aye be better suited for a shorter, edgier hairstyle than someone who tends to be quiet and more reserved. While your stylist may not always agree with the cut or color you have chosen, our desire is to see you happy and make you feel good. We may offer suggestions about tweaking what you are wanting, this way you get what you are after, but in a fashion that will be most flattering on you as an individual.

Personality Of Your Style

Personality is also a very important thing to consider. In many cases, someone who has a spunky, fun, outgoing personality will be better suited for a shorter, edgier hairstyle than someone who tends to be quiet and more reserved. While your stylist may not always agree with the cut or color you have chosen, our desire is to see you happy and make you feel good. color, and style that is specific to you your wants, needs, and lifestyle.

The final factor that your stylist will ask you about is your profession. What do you do for a living? Are you a stay at home mom who runs around after her kiddos all day and needs to be able to wear a ponytail? Or are you a business professional who needs to present a very polished appearance? Time will again factor in here. Do you like to get up early and prepare for your day prior to leaving your home? Or do you like to snooze as long as possible and run out the door in 20 minutes? All of these questions and factors allow us to tailor a cut, color, and style that is specific to you your wants, needs, and lifestyle.
